Clinical Nutrition for Wellness and Acupuncture for Energy

Naturopathic medicine modalities that work in conjunction with one another could make your health recovery, rejuvenation, and/or recharging an optimal experience. When it comes to following a wholesome diet, each person could use a specific protocol that suits their individual health needs. This could entail anti-inflammatory foods or foods that may help you sleep better to name a few. When it comes to boosting energy and avoiding fatigue, adding acupuncture to the mix has shown some significantly beneficial results as well.

Clinical nutrition for wellness and acupuncture for energy are two powerhouse modalities that address overall systemic maintenance or symptoms that may be impeding your health. This combination has been used for ancient healing and has been researched as a viable modern day remedy.

Mediterranean Healing

It may come as no surprise that eating naturally prepared, organic fruits and vegetables while foregoing processed, packaged foods is the best choice for your healthy longevity. A highly plant-based diet has proven over and over that much of what ails you can easily be reduced or eliminated through such choices.

Foods like dark green leafy vegetables, nuts, flax and chia seeds as well as moderate sweet fruits are some of the top tier superfoods that work in conjunction with your body’s ability to heal. The most studied and effective way of eating has shown to be the Mediterranean diet. In clinical nutrition, this way of eating is the gold standard for avoiding many health compromises including hypertension, inflammation, and cognitive compromise.

The renowned multi-center Spanish trial PREDIMED (Prevención con Dieta Mediterránea) found that a Mediterranean diet was the topmost choice for preventing heart disease. You may not have or be at risk for heart disease but if you could eat a diet that kept your ‘life engine’ in optimal shape, the rest of your bodily functions often fall in line. The PREDIMED study followed 7,447 participants for close to five years.

In April of 2013 the trial ‘Primary Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease with a Mediterranean Diet’ was published in the New England Journal of Medicine. Although this trial was slated as a challenge to PREDIMED it was discovered that the original recommendation of eating a Mediterranean diet was corroborated, stating,

“In this trial, an energy-unrestricted Mediterranean diet supplemented with either extra-virgin olive oil or nuts resulted in an absolute risk reduction of approximately 3 major cardiovascular events per 1000 person-years, for a relative risk reduction of approximately 30%, among high-risk persons who were initially free of cardiovascular disease. These results support the benefits of the Mediterranean diet for cardiovascular risk reduction.”

Healthline reports this quick checklist you can access to follow the Mediterranean diet while adhering to some other favorable eating habits as well,

Eat – Vegetables, fruits, nuts, seeds, legumes, potatoes, whole grains, breads, herbs, spices, fish, seafood and extra virgin olive oil.
Eat in moderation – Poultry, eggs, cheese and yogurt.
Eat only rarely – Red meat.
Don’t eat – Sugar-sweetened beverages, added sugars, processed meat, refined grains, refined oils and other highly processed foods.

A naturopathic doctor with an expertise in clinical nutrition can also recommend food choices for specific conditions/diseases such as turmeric for inflammation, ginger for digestion and chia seeds for energy. Add in botanical medicine for herbal prescriptions as well as nutraceutical supplementation for vitamin, mineral, enzyme, and probiotic support.

Up Your Stamina

Now that acupuncture is slowly becoming a commonplace option for natural healing choices, many are realizing the underlying capability of this incredible modality. Aside from addressing health challenging issues such as back pain, headaches, addiction, and weight management, acupuncture for energy is a great way to hit the ground running. In addition to naturopathic medicine such as clinical nutrition, working with a professional, licensed acupuncturist, you could open up blocked meridians (energy pathways) that may be causing fatigue.

According to a study by Korean researchers titled ‘Acupuncture for chronic fatigue syndrome and idiopathic chronic fatigue: a multi-center, non-blinded, randomized controlled trial’ which was published in the journal Trials, it was concluded that,

“The results of this study suggest that 4 weeks of body acupuncture therapy [10 sessions for this study] added to usual care can improve fatigue symptoms of CFS [chronic fatigue syndrome] and ICF [idiopathic (spontaneous; unknown) chronic fatigue] patients.”

Clinical nutrition for wellness and acupuncture for energy could be an excellent addition to your committed health makeover or current health toolbox. Eating a clean, monitored diet that could hopefully turn into a way of life instead of a “diet” often works on many levels that may positively affect cognitive as well as physical functions.
