Acupuncture is a form of Classical Chinese Medicine that focuses on balancing the body’s energetic flux, called qi (pronounced chee). When this flow is constrained, disharmony and illness can occur. By inserting fine, hair-thin needles into the skin and so redirecting the movement of energy, acupuncture can restore harmony and balance to mind, body, and spirit. Much of western medicine accepts acupuncture as a testable treatment that interacts with key nerve-plexes that block pain receptors and/or stimulates neurotransmitter releases. The needles are not painful and many people find the effect of acupuncture to be deeply relaxing and profound. It is an intelligent medicine, gentle enough for pregnant women, and powerful enough to treat more serious conditions like high blood pressure, chronic pain or insomnia.
According to the principles of Classical Chinese Medicine, a person’s health is determined by having a balanced flow of energy circulate through the body. Acupuncture is a means of promoting and maintaining health within the body and is often used as a complement for those undergoing western medical treatments. Acupuncture can also be used by those who aren’t experiencing any discomfort. It has the power to preventively boost ones immune system and energy levels. It can be effective at reducing stress and creating emotional balance. As well, many use it seasonally to support the body in a changing environment. Womens health is one of the very oldest of the Chinese medical specialties. Acupuncture can support a woman through all the phases of her life. It is effective in regulating a woman’s hormonal cycle as well it helps her through the physical and emotional changes of pregnancy. Fertility is one issue that acupuncture has been used extensively to treat. Since the aim of Classical Chinese Medicine is to harmonize and bring one into balance, these ideas are often fundamental to clearing up problems with male and female infertility. Acupuncture is very effective when used in conjunction with Naturopathic Medicine, Western allopathic Medicine, Chiropractic Care, Physical Therapy, or Massage Therapy. It has been proven to decrease post-operative healing times, increase immune functioning, and enhances well-being, memory, and concentration. The World Health Organization recognizes the ability of acupuncture and traditional Oriental medicine to treat over 200 commonly encountered conditions. Please Learn More.
ABOUT CLASSICAL CHINESE MEDICINE
Integrative Med Solutions® emphasizes the wholistic spirit of the classical teachings of Chinese Medicine, a comprehensive system of health care with a clinical history of over 3000 years. It’s IMS’s intention to transmit the time-honoured science of Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM) as a highly sophisticated and deeply spiritual art form. CCM invites you to explore the essence of Oriental medicine from a perspective that goes far beyond the institutionalized phenomenon presently known as “TCM” (traditional Chinese medicine). Since the 1970s, the TCM process of packaging the multi-faceted roots of Chinese medicine into the sterile confines of a highly-standardized model has been eagerly absorbed by educational institutions in Europe and America, and is rapidly becoming the dominant face of Oriental medicine today. While TCM represents the recent marriage between local Chinese resources with the methodology of scientific materialism, CCM remains firmly committed to its ancient roots. CCM is a science in its own right, embedded in the mytho-poetic mode of observing and describing nature, which linked the spheres of macro and microcosm in ancient China, and became preserved in a set of works honoured as “the classics.” The primary distinguishing feature of CCM is thus its way of thinking–why and when and how does one chose to apply a therapeutic modality, rather than insisting that the use of acupuncture and herbs alone defines a practitioner of the traditional art of Chinese medicine.
The principles of CCM are most influenced by the following philosophy: There are observable principles of constant change that govern the Universe. Humans are necessarily part of this universe and cannot be separated from the universal process of change. Optimum health results from living harmoniously, allowing the spontaneous process of change to bring one closer to balance. If there is no change (stagnation), or too much change (catastrophism), balance is lost and illnesses can result. Everything is ultimately interconnected. And so wholistic (systemic or system-wide) approaches are best to addressing imbalances. Chinese medicine is primarily based on a philosophical model that holds the human body as a small universe with a complete set of sophisticated interconnected systems. These systems are in constant flux and exchange with its environment and all the interconnections naturally work in balance to maintain the healthy functioning of the body. Observation of intricate symptoms at such minute granularity requires heightened consciousness and acute eye for detail. According to one Chinese saying, a good doctor is also qualified to be a good prime minister in a country.
