How I Use Acupuncture for Tendonitis Pain in Westchester, NY

During the winter months when there is less physical movement compared to warmer months, pain can arise. Tendonitis is a common occurrence, particularly in colder climates, and can present almost anywhere a tendon is present. The most commonly affected areas are the elbow, shoulder, wrist and heel (Achilles tendon). Symptoms can range from tenderness near or around the joint, especially when the joint has been stationary for long periods of time. Pain can also present at night, affecting sleep

Integrative Med Solutions (IMS) can manage tendonitis by significantly reducing symptoms through individually tailored applications that may include:

  • Acupuncture
  • Nutraceutical supplementation
  • Botanical Medicine

These alone or as a combined protocol could naturally reduce inflammation, increase range of motion and reset the system into a more optimal healing mode. This general wellness approach could stave off any further damage that may require more serious medical attention.

Acupuncture Relieves Stagnant Qi

Congested blood and qi (“chee” – life energy force) can be one of the causes of tendonitis.

By administering several sessions of acupuncture treatments, naturopathic doctor and licensed acupuncturist Dr. Lisanti attempts to regenerate and release qi stagnation or blockages.

“As an acupuncturist for over twenty years, I feel that I have an attuned ability to listen, empathize and offer compassion to every patient. Through this lens I am able to offer my best work, resulting in some unique and highly beneficial outcomes.”

Acupuncture is painlessly directing hair-thin needles into points along meridians (pathways) correlating with a map of these points that connect to a particular ailment, in this case tendonitis. Overall, it is usually a relaxing experience that can sometimes generate immediate and positive results of pain reduction and better ROM (range of motion).

Another approach is by strengthening or relieving related organs, where, in the case of tendonitis would be the liver and its unique functions according to Classical Chinese Medicine (CCM). Acupuncture is a medically accepted therapy applied as a safe treatment that does not cause side effects or dependency.

Botanical Medicine: Nature’s Anti-Inflammatory

Herbs from a variety of plant life sources prepared as topical rubs, tinctures, teas or capsules are used to address symptoms of tendonitis. These natural remedies, when formulated through IMS, could be capable of reducing inflammation and pain just as well as prescription medication but with no side effects. In addition, specific herbs could strengthen organs such as the aforementioned liver by enhancing depleted energy or by detoxifying and allowing a type of, ‘re-setting’ to occur.

One study of barley grass published in the journal, Anti-inflammatory and Anti-allergy Agents in Medicinal Chemistry (1/22/24) concluded that, “…Barley grass, offers a wealth of health benefits, including anti-inflammatory, anti-diabetic, anti-cancer, antioxidant, anti-acne, and anti-depressant properties. These properties contribute to improved immunity, reduced cardiovascular disorders, and alleviation of fatigue. The distinct extracts, BGHE [Barley Grass Hexane Extract] and BGAQ [Barley Grass Aqueous Extract], both exhibit promising anti-inflammatory capabilities,…”

Nutraceutical Supplementation Addresses Tendon Weakness

Nutraceutical supplementation is another therapy that may be applied alongside acupuncture, botanical medicine and other remedies IMS has to offer. Dr. Lisanti will assess a particular tendonitis challenge and then apply vitamin, plant, mineral, enzyme or sometimes substances derived from animals to alleviate such symptoms. He will carefully prescribe intricately measured dosages that will in no way contraindicate with any medications currently prescribed for tendonitis or other ailments.
