SciaticaSymptoms from sciatica can range from a nagging pain in the back of the leg or groin to mild or extreme tingling and numbness (especially in the foot), burning sensation and ultimate weakness causing balance challenges. These discomforts can arise when simply standing, sitting for long periods of time, sneezing, coughing or laughing or performing rigorous movement such as sports. Acupuncture and naturopathic medicine has had high success in treating sciatica by reducing inflammation and moving stuck energy. Using a combination of individually formulated therapies, Dr. Lisanti of Integrated Med Solutions (IMS) will help relieve the extreme pain, soreness and debilitating symptoms associated with sciatica.

Acupuncture: Opening up the Nerve

There are three differential diagnoses that may be associated with sciatica pain. These are:

1. Kidney-Jing Deficiency: Soreness in knees and groin.

2. Blood Stasis: Tingling pain in lumbar and legs.

3. Wind-Cold-Damp: Limited movement in the lumbar region and entire leg area. Aggravated by cold, cloudy, rainy days.

Acupuncture points that target sciatica may include locations such as the Hua Too Jia Ji just above the sacrum at the base of the spine, the Kidney Shu point and the Tai Xi or “Great River” point which is low on the leg and is based on the theory that Kidney Yin collects here just as water would find the lowest point to pool.

Homeopathy: Deep Vibration Healing

This administering of tiny sweet pellets or liquid formulas contains the uniquely prepared and powerful vibration of plant, mineral or animal material can often surpass conventional medicinal approaches. At IMS, a variety of homeopathic remedies are available to treat patients according to their initial intake interview where Dr. Lisanti will determine how deep the affliction may be affected by your body and/or your mind. Homeopathy is easy, safe and backed up by over two-hundred years of practice. Among many ailments, sciatica can respond very well to this treatment.

Clinical Nutrition: Stop the Inflammation

Sciatica pain is often the result of the nerve being aggravated and sending a message to the muscles to seize up. This can create an inflammatory response that is difficult to release. Dr. Lisanti is able to help this inflammation by recommending an anti-inflammatory diet consisting of such foods as: capsacium, ginger and curcumin as well as avoiding inflammatory foods such as night shades which consist of things like potatoes and eggplant.

Other remedies may include nutraceutical supplementation and botanical medicine which include vitamins and herbs such as calcium, vitamin D, devils claw, Jamaican dogwood, arnica and more.
