High CholesterolAccording to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 1 in 3 American adults suffer from high blood pressure and 2 out of 3 are not being treated effectively. Conventional treatment includes statins, cholesterol absorption inhibitors and nicotinic acid. Many of these drugs are used as lifelong therapies requiring patients to heavily rely on their daily dose. Integrative Med Solutions (IMS) uses a unique combination of acupuncture and naturopathic medicine to holistically allow the body to embrace the attempt to lower high cholesterol.

Acupuncture: Moving Lipid Buildup

The International Journal of Clinical Acupuncture published a study from Tianjin University in China that concluded, “…acupuncture is effective immediately and it also continues to have a stable long-term effect on weight loss and lowering cholesterol.” According to Classical Chinese Medicine, high cholesterol is often associated with Liver and Gall Bladder deficiencies therefore IMS licensed acupuncturist, Dr. Lisanti, may target these meridians. According to your individual health history, specific points worked include: Yuan Ye – GB22 located on the lateral chest; Zhe Jin – GB23 located just anterior of GB22; and Ri Yue – GB24 located on anterior chest at the level of the seventh intercostal space.

Clinical Nutrition: Reducing Plaque

One of the most pro-active remedies for high cholesterol is implementing an IMS clinical nutrition program. By changing your food intake you can drastically reduce high cholesterol numbers and possibly avoid conventional drug therapy. By determining the best choices for you, Dr. Lisanti can suggest foods as well as enhance your information on medicinal eating. These foods are included in the National Cholesterol Program’s Therapeutic Lifestyle Changes (TLC) diet and consist of such choices as: legumes, fish, skinless poultry, whole grains, fruits and vegetables (especially dark green leafy choices, such as kale). In addition, avoiding processed foods, trans-fats, sugars, sodium and more will more than likely increase your quality of life as well as reduce harmful cholesterol plaque.

Nutraceutical Supplementation: Vitamins, Minerals and More to Combat High Cholesterol

Working hand-in-hand with Dr. Lisanti you will implement a nutraceutical program that will individually benefit you. This means that through a specific health history intake along with a possible blood screening, he will be able to find what works best and safest for your high cholesterol challenge. Some nutraceutical additions that may be used include: Vitamins C, E, A, B-6, B-12, Folic acid, Beta-Carotene and Omega-3 fatty acids.

Homeopathy: A Multi-Layered Approach to High Cholesterol

At IMS, homeopathy is a resource applied to many conditions including high cholesterol. It works by re-adjusting deep level vibrations associated with adverse conditions with a ‘like-cures-like’ premise using materials from plant, animal and mineral sources. Some homeopathic remedies for high cholesterol are: Adonis Veralis – could regulate pulse and heart contractions when in a state of fatty degeneration; Cholesterinum – attempts to lower cholesterol; Phosphorus – may be used to relieve plaque and cholesterol nervous system related conditions.

Other IMS high cholesterol therapies such as botanical medicine and detoxification can also be used.
